Andrew Maita Introduction

My name is Andrew Maita and I am a Junior Architectural/Civil Engineer at Drexel. My expectations for this class is to learn a lot of information I would not generally learn in my structures based classes. Due to said structures concentration, intelligent buildings may not be touched on in great detail. Based on what Professor Mitchell's intro, my background in AutoCAD and Revit will be pertinent to this class. Additionally, I think I will expand on my skills in Revit and learn to use other applications like databases during the class.

The Evernot clip I read about was Kohler integrating Amazon’s Alexa into different appliances in your bathroom. They are using a series of small test bathrooms to experiment and test their new products. Applications of these new voice controlled appliances includes a vanity mirror that has Alexa built in, a shower where the temperature can be controlled by voice commands and a tub that can also be filled up using your voice, and even a toilet that can be flushed using a voice command. Kolher did not provide a launch date on any of these systems.

I would define an intelligent building as a building that has been upgraded to include different forms of technology so that the building either function more efficiently or the occupants of the building can be more comfortable or be able to perform their tasks more efficiently.
