Robotics and the Shape of Buildings

Carlos Hillinger

The use of robots will certainly affect the way buildings are shaped and designed. The most popularly known new robot used in the construction industry is the 3D printing cement robot, and I believe that it is the perfect example as for how they will change building shapes.

According to Jane Wakefield, a technology reporter, "Using a robotic arm means that the team can print up to 10 times faster and create a huge variety of forms, including curved, hollow and geometrically complex shapes."

Not only robots can print different shapes faster and cheaper than humans, but other factors to take into account are: the size of the robot, building from the inside to the outside, and the limited amount of materials that can be used by robots.
